One line, unbroken for sixty years60년 동안 멈추지 않은 하나의 선
Yoosho Nam has spent sixty years drawing a single, unbroken line. He graduated from Seorabeol University of Arts in 1966, majoring in Western painting, and taught art at the middle and high school level before turning to painting full-time. His nude croquis practice began with his first solo exhibition at Yechong Gallery in 1977, and in 1993 he brought the live croquis session out of the studio and into public view for the first time in Korea. He continues his live sessions today, moving between oil painting, ink on hanji, and canvas abstraction — always guided by the same instinct for the line, and by a lifelong attention to Korean traditional dance and everyday women.
남유소는 60년 동안 끊기지 않는 하나의 선을 그려왔다. 1966년 서라벌예술대학 서양화과를 졸업하고, 중·고등학교에서 미술을 가르치다 전업 화가의 길로 들어섰다. 1977년 예총화랑 첫 개인전에서 누드 크로키 작업을 시작했고, 1993년에는 작업실 안의 크로키를 국내 처음으로 대중 앞의 라이브 크로키로 끌어냈다. 지금도 라이브 작업을 이어가며 유화, 한지 위의 먹, 캔버스 추상을 오간다 — 언제나 선에 대한 같은 감각, 그리고 한국 전통춤과 일상의 여인을 향한 평생의 시선을 따라서.

FOCUS Art Fair is built mainly around gallery booths, but Yoosho Nam takes part in this London edition as an independent artist, invited without gallery representation. He is presented by Studio Yoosho, which manages the artist's exhibitions and archive.
