Janggu Rhythm and Dance장구가락과 춤

A group of women in hanbok stand still together, while a single figure moves apart from them, a long white scarf trailing through the air. One holds a small drum, carrying the rhythm; the other carries motion itself — stillness and movement, the collective and the individual, held together in one scene. Rendered in coarse brushwork and thick impasto, the figures blur at the edges, yet their gestures and expressions remain vivid, like a scene surfacing from memory. Patches of yellow-green spill across the upper canvas like sunlight breaking through leaves, scattering down onto the dancers' garments, while touches of red bring the composition to life. Closing out the six works brought to FOCUS Art Fair London 2026, this painting captures the moment those who keep the rhythm and the one who answers it in her body meet within a single frame.

한복을 입은 여인들이 모여 선 정적인 무리와, 흰 천을 휘날리며 움직이는 한 인물의 동적인 몸짓이 화면 안에서 대비를 이룬다. 소고를 든 인물은 리듬을, 흰 천의 인물은 움직임 그 자체를 상징하며, 정지와 동작, 군집과 개별이 한 화면 안에 공존한다. 거친 붓질과 두터운 마티에르로 형상을 흐릿하게 풀어내면서도 인물들의 몸짓과 표정만은 살아 있게 남겨, 기억 속 장면처럼 어른거리는 인상을 준다. 화면 위쪽에 번진 연둣빛과 노란 색면은 나뭇잎 사이로 쏟아지는 햇살처럼 인물들의 옷자락 위로까지 흩어지고, 그 사이사이 찍힌 붉은 점들이 화면에 생기를 더한다.
